After a long flight over from Melbourne, Australia, an early morning arrival and successful navigation of Paris\' RER and metro system and first conversations in our limited French, it was a delight to open the door to our Apartment in Paris and find it exactly as we had expected. The Apartment in Paris itself was huge, the bathroom was spotless and big enough for 2 people to be in at the same time. The location was great: at one end of the street was a supermarket, restaurants, pastierre, local weekday markets, etc. At the other end, less than 5 minutes walk, was a Metro station. Our contact, Rafi, was brilliant: always available and extremely helpful. The Apartment in Paris was clean and quiet. We only had a few disappointments: the lack of small finishing touches, such as no tea towels (kitchen drying cloths), minimal cooking-eating implements (a lack of knives, no corkscrew, etc), no clothes rack or line, and no hair dryer. Also the sofa bed, whilst comfortable, was squeaky and did tend to wake us up whenever we rolled over. The appartment offers a peak at the Eiffel Tower from the bedroom window, and was perhaps sunny but Paris was cloudy and overcast all week. The building has the tiny elevator installed in the stairwell typical of Paris, and lovely old wooden stairs. The appartment is small, and although the ad says it is perfect for 4 people, we couldn\'t see that. The pullout sofa was a large twin, and the king bed really a queen. The bed just fit into the bedroom, and the other room, dining and living,is about 10X15 feet, with two large windows. The ceiling had the old beam look, (I think they were railroad ties installed in a renovation) and the place had charm. The bathroom was small, and the bathtub high. One had to be careful stepping out of it. There were two closets, and shelves and drawers for putting belongings away. The kitchette had no oven, just 2 electric burners and a microwave. All in all, it was delightful to stay there and relax comme chez soi, and see the Eiffel Tower shimmer in lights on the hour, and feel part of the quartier. The quartier is fabulous. The corner boulangerie/patisserie was wonderful, cafe around the corner, a great brasserie down rue de Sevres, and a fabulous restaurant just at the building ( make reservation). We walked to Invalides, Orsay, Champs-Elysees, the Latin Quarter and Notre Dame. There were no problems with Goldenstay, and Rafi even came to our rescue with the television set. I found the internet site easy to use, and the communication excellent. Walking distance to the Louvre, subway, and taxi stands. There are numerous restaurants that are walking distance as well as grocery stores and bakeries. The pictures on the website were accurate and the place was clean and well equipt with kitchen,bathroom and cleaning necessities. The flat was very comfortable except that it was a bit cold. That being said, it was EXTREMELY cold in Paris at the time my family and I visited. There is internet hook-up available, but you need to bring your own laptop. We stayed for 5 nights with our 20 month old daughter Lily and it provided a wonderful base to explore Paris at our own pace. Because of its central location, you can walk to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame. The Apartment in Paris is really lovely - its light, clean and very comfortable. We arrived late in the evening after travelling all day and it was wonderful to find things just as they were supposed to be - and imagine our surprise when we looked out the bedroom window and saw the Eiffel Tower - it was a lovely unexpected bonus. The amenities were very good - two hotplates, a microwave, a kettle, a fridge and lots of pots and pans in the little kitchen that opens onto the dining area; a fantastic combined washer/drier in the bathroom that will cheer the soul of any mother with a young toddler - put on a load of washing, go and explore Paris and come back and its all dry - heaven! And everything for the internet was right there - Lily's Dad had the laptop plugged in and ready to go before I had even unpacked! It really is a 10 second walk down to rue de Sevres which has many lovely boulangerie - we liked the one on the corner of rue Rousselet the best! But there are also two supermarkets nearby to buy groceries if you are planning to self cater as we did. And of course being Paris, it is a 2 minute walk to either of the two metro stops.
